Karen Dick

Karen Dick at Inala Nature on Bruny Island

Karen joined the Inala team in 2017 and has been a very keen birder all her life.

She is a highly motivated, enthusiastic environmental specialist with more than twenty five years’ experience of ecology, environmental management, research and education, with specialist expertise in ecology, ecological impact assessment, ornithology, biodiversity conservation, and sustainability issues. She has practised ecology since 1988, and has worked on projects in a variety of countries around the world.  Karen relocated with her family from the UK to Tasmania in 2012.

Living in Hobart, she is at the beating heart of a network of Tasmanian Birders and continually traverses the whole state both on guided tours and for her own birding pleasure.

As well as being able to impart her excellent knowledge of birds, mammals and the whole environmental world in an clear and interesting manner, Karen is also a pleasure to spend time with. Friendly, thoughtful and always willing to go above and beyond for every guest, we are delighted to have her as part of the Inala Family.

"... Karen, our guide in Tasmania, was excellent. She really listened to what was important to us. Though we had some challenging weather on the trip (snow, hail, wind and rain) she was very flexible with our itinerary and focused on finding the mammals that we wanted to see. Karen knew the special places to look for wildlife. She was a pleasure to have as a guide. She was passionate about the wildlife and seemed just as excited as we were to take time to watch the behavior of the animals." ( Trip Advisor )

"Karen was our guide. Her knowledge and passion made for a wonderful, interesting day. We got to see animals up close and learn about them, Also, her knowledge of the history of Tasmania was fascinating to us. ... I highly recommend seeing these things and Inala is very professional and accommodating. Some day I hope to return for a longer visit and will use this company and ask for Karen" (Joyce TripAdvisor )

"Spent a wonderful day birding Bruny Island with Karen Dick through Inala Nature Tours. Having provided Karen with a fairly specific list of birds we would like to try and see, was soon impressed with the effort she put in to locate them for us. Along with the birds we spent the day enjoying and hearing about the ecology, history and 'feel' of Bruny Island. Could not have asked for a more pleasant, knowledgeable and hard working guide. Highly recommended, many thanks :-)"  ( Anne TripAdvisor )

"I hugely enjoyed my day and night trip with Inala. My guide, Karen, was hugely knowledgable and went out of her way to ensure I had a great trip. The whole ethos of Inala is brilliant and all the staff care passionately about the island and its wildlife. " ( TripAdvisor )
