Inala Operations Manager / Full Time - Permanent

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000

Location: Hobart OR a location between Hobart and Bruny Island OR on Bruny Island, Tasmania.

Work flexibility: includes 1-2 days/wk on-site at Inala Nature Tours HQ on Bruny Island and remaining FTE work-from-home.

We are seeking an energetic, suitably qualified and experienced person to manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of Inala Nature Tours, Inala Country Accommodation and Inala Nature Reserve.

Inala Nature Tours has operated from Bruny Island, Tasmania for almost 30 years and offers much more than nature tour experiences. The Inala Nature Reserve includes 4-5 star standard accommodation options and unique guest and visitor experiences. Conservation lies at the heart of everything we do. 

We are a family-owned small business providing tailored nature tour experiences in Australia, and more recently, to a number of international locations. Aside from offering our own tour options, we work closely with several international tour booking companies to lead high quality nature tours throughout Australia.

Broad Duties 

  • Manage Inala Nature Tours office administration
  • Manage Inala’s Bruny Island-based tourism and staff activities.
  • Problem-solve any short and long term challenges to Inala’s tourism activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential 

  • Tourism Industry Qualification (diploma level or above)
  • Proven leadership skills and experience
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills
  • Comprehensive problem-solving skills
  • Proven experience in coordinating tours 
  • Comprehensive experience using TourWriter or equivalent travel industry software 
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written & verbal communications skills
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Cloud-based applications
  • Experience using Content Management Systems or willingness to learn

Desirable 

  • Marketing qualification and/or experience
  • Digital marketing knowledge and/or experience
  • Nature tourism experience
  • Conservation tourism experience

Position Requirements

  • Willingness and capacity to work outside normal office hours and weekend days when needed.
  • Proof of full Covid vaccination with willingness to undergo testing and receive booster vaccine if required.
  • Willingness and capacity to travel interstate and overseas on occasion.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Working with Vulnerable People Card
  • Driver’s licence (for commuting to Inala HQ on Bruny Island)

  • Computer (laptop or desktop) with up-to-date operating system and software ( supplied when working at Inala )
  • NBN Internet connection ( supplied when working at Inala )
  • Mobile phone

Inala Nature Tours employs a small team of Tour Organisers who manage tour bookings and organise guides, suppliers (vehicles, venue entry, meals and accommodation). Tour Organisers work off-site from home. On-site Inala staff manage the office and gift shop, prepare Inala accommodation for guests, assist with on-site tours and events, keep the Inala buildings tidy and maintained, and maintain the Jurassic Garden and Nature Reserve.

Key duties

  • Manage  Inala’s Bruny Island tourism and staff activities
  • Manage Australian and International tours
  • Coordinate Tour Organiser activities to ensure clients and suppliers receive excellent service.
  • Ensure all aspects of the business adhere to Covid-safe practices.
  • Work within the scope of Inala’s Business, Strategic and Marketing Plans.
  • Work closely with Inala’s management team to inform them of operations activity and assist with development of key business strategies.
  • Problem-solve any interruptions to Inala’s tourism activities.
  • Work along-side the marketing team to ensure all tourism activities are promoted effectively and in a timely fashion.
  • Work with stakeholders to keep the business operating within Inala’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Monitor grant opportunities, contribute to grant submissions and ensure ongoing reporting and evidential records for successful grants .
  • Ensure Tour Writer software is kept up-to-date, training in the evolving usage of the software is ongoing and data entry is consistent and accurate.
  • Ensure Inala vehicle maintenance schedule is adhered to.
  • Keep all tour-related equipment in good condition and purchase equipment and supplies within budgetary allocation.
  • Recruit staff as needed.
  • Run the weekly virtual Inala staff meeting. 
  • Stay closely connected with the Inala Team via Microsoft Teams.
  • Manage volunteer activities
  • Keep abreast of Tourism Industry news and legislative changes at both a state and national level.
  • Keep abreast of relevant conservation, sustainability and environmental issues and where necessary implement policies and discuss with management involve Inala in the conversations/projects. 
  • Initiate and coordinate an ongoing diverse range of workshops and events at Inala and oversee elements of catering, marketing, content creation and presentation.
  • Pursue possible new partnerships, collaborations and opportunities within conservation, tourism and botany.
