The Inala Nature Reserve has rich habitat, a wide variety of threatened species, and is home to all 12 Tasmanian endemic bird species.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see some rare and threatened flora and fauna, including the Endangered Tasmanian endemic Forty-spotted Pardalote. We will tailor the experience to suit your wishes.
Observe at close range the Endangered Tasmanian endemic Forty-spotted Pardalote from the purpose-built canopy platform within one of its largest known colonies. Endemics including the Tasmanian Thornbill, Tasmanian Scrubwren, Dusky Robin, Green Rosella, and all four endemic honeyeaters are also commonly seen here.
View frequent visitor raptors such as the Tasmanian subspecies of the Wedge-tailed Eagle and the white morph of the Grey Goshawk from the raptor viewing hide. There is also a good chance of spotting Swift Parrots, which breed on the property between September and January, as well as Flame, Scarlet and Pink Robins, and Beautiful Firetails.
If you wish, after your tour, your guide can provide you with the Inala bird list with the species marked that you have seen.
Your guide will interpret the landscape and ecosystem around you as you explore the property. You will learn about the behaviours and lives of the birds and animals you see, and conservation efforts to protect these species and their habitats.
The property is also a great place to see Bennetts Wallaby, Tasmanian Pademelon, enormous eucalypt trees and tree-ferns, a magnificent stand of Blackwood trees, and some native terrestrial orchids that mostly flower between August and March.

- Please be aware that the Inala conservation property and the Forty-spotted Pardalote Platform can only be visited during a guided tour and can only be accessed without a guide by guests who are staying in Inala's cottage accommodation.
- To ensure guide availability, we recommend tours to be booked in advance and we strongly recommend booking as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
We do not run tours at set times, the start time will be personalised to your wishes. - For morning birdlife we recommend starting between 7.30am and 9am.
- Many guests who book a tour are also staying in one of our cottages, the guide will come to your door to collect you.
- We can lend you binoculars if you do not have a pair. Please let us know.
