This is our most popular Bruny tour package.  It is great value and includes two fantastic tours to provide you with a wonderful overview of Bruny Island with the chance to visit a number of different locations and habitats and see both diurnal and nocturnal wildlife while you are based at a comfortable Inala Cottage at the Inala Reserve.

Meet your guide at Inala first thing in the morning and enjoy a wonderful day exploring Inala and Bruny Island

We often begin at the Inala Conservation Reserve where you will walk around the private reserve, home to a variety of threatened species and all 12 Tasmanian endemic birds. This part of the tour gives you the opportunity to observe the Endangered Tasmanian endemic Forty-spotted Pardalote from the purpose-built canopy platform within one of its largest  known colonies. You may also have the chance to view raptors such as the Tasmanian subspecies of the Wedge-tailed Eagle and the white morph of the Grey Goshawk from the raptor viewing hide if they come by during your visit.

You will then then continue on your day tour to explore your choice of many wonderful Bruny Island locations depending on which birds, wildlife, history and landscape you are most interested in.   Locations may include Cloudy Bay, Cape Bruny Lighthouse, Adventure Bay, Mount Mangana, Mavista Rainforest, The Neck, Cape Queen Elizabeth and many other unique and beautiful sites which your expert local guide will explore with you.  Your guide will illuminate and interpret the rich and varied habitats you pass through and inform you about all the wonderful nature that you see.  We tailor the day to suit your interests and will focus on finding any particular birds or wildlife you were hoping to see on Bruny.

Enjoy morning tea and a picnic lunch in the field at some lovely outdoor/sheltered spots depending on the weather.

After dinner with your guide at a Bruny restaurant,  you will continue on the night tour with your guide to a Short-tailed Shearwater  (Muttonbird) colony to view these birds returning to their burrows from the ocean after dusk and hopefully spot a few Little Penguin amongst the colony. ( Please note: Bruny has a very small breeding colony for the Penguins, yet they can sometimes be viewed throughout the year. It is a large Shearwater colony, they are present for their breeding season between September and April.) As well as visiting the Shearwater colony, you will  then also visit other areas of the Island with your guide in search of some of Bruny Island's other nocturnal wildlife such as endemic Tasmanian Pademelons and endangered Eastern Quolls which are now only found in Tasmania, as well as Bennett’s Wallabies and Brush-tailed Possums both of which are also found in a rare near-albino colour morph on Bruny Island. Long-nosed Potoroo, Tawny Frogmouth and Tasmanian Boobook are also possibilities, with an outside chance of seeing an endangered Masked Owl.
It is also possible to see the Southern sky in all its brilliance on a clear night, including the Southern Cross, Milky Way, Orion, various planets and maybe even the Aurora australis during more active solar periods.

  • We advise you add on at least one more night staying in an Inala Cottage before or after the tour package to have the most enjoyable relaxed experience and to maximise your time to explore Inala outside of your time on the guided tours.

    Perfect Tour Choice:
  • If would like to explore the Inala property and many wonderful locations around South Bruny Island, maximising your time on this incredible island and learning about its rich ecology and history.  You will learn all the best birding spots around Inala and the Island to return to during the rest of your stay.
  • For allowing enough time to find as many of the endemics as possible in one day at a relaxed pace where you can enjoy and absorb the beauty around you.
  • If you would love to go out at night to see wildlife in Tasmania and would like the knowledge and experience of a specialist guide who knows the best places to look to see the birds and mammals in the wild, and so you have none of the stress of driving at night and can focus on enjoying the experience.
